...February and it's crept up on me. How dare it be the second month of the year so soon. Lots of things to do. Better get cracking and join in with a Listography over at Kate Takes 5. The first of the new year and an angry one too. Kate's asked us to name the top five phrases that drive us crazy. Well, I like phrases. I was brought up on them. My dad's favourite is, I could eat an arse end off a skunk. Classy, I know. My favourites include: Who rattled your cage? (said in a thick regional accent), it's the stuff that dreams are made of (referring to a good night out) and it's not for the likes of us (referring to a posh place). I could go on. I do love a good phrase but here goes with a few I don't like.
1. It's a game of two halves
Surely not? I thought I was watching a football match.
2. Back of the net.
When people are referring to anything not to do with football.
3. Calm down (followed by pet, dear, love, duck).
As if I intend on calming down NOW.
4. Those who can't do teach.
It does make me giggle a bit though.
5.God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
Where do I begin? I have no time for right wing fascists so jog on, pet....(love that phrase).
Happy February....I hope it's the stuff that dreams are made of for you all.
'Calm down' is a real tooth grinder. If there's one thing to make you even more more crazy it's that.
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard of the Adam and Steve one - whilst I hate the sentiment the actual phrase is kinda funny. No? Ok I'll leave now.
The anger is just leaping from your page! HAHA! 4 and 5 cracked me up! And actually it's Adam & Lilith, according to Judaism. Eve was the second wife! Go figure! Always love your lists JoJo!
ReplyDeleteLike Kate, number 5 made me laugh too.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard No 5 , thank God. But I am guilty of using No 3 rather a lot, but then I do have a son who has regular meltdowns. I don't add the pet bit obviously as that would just make things worse!
ReplyDelete"Jog on, pet". Brilliant! I shall have to steal it.
ReplyDelete'Like,actually...whatever' Am I bovvered. Thanks Catherine Tate, you're a real 'treasure'.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me why I like you and your blog.
